Club Day Saturday 14th/Sunday15th January 2012
I should like to thank all the people who helped to make this club day such a successful one, especially John and Kate Wykes who travelled from Warwickshire on Friday for the weekend to judge our club members and Frances who cooked and looked after them in our home.
Saturday was cold but dry and sunny at Brickhouse Farm, Peldon. After the early frost thawed the ground was very sticky. Despite the cold sixteen Iceni members were due to turn out to compete in the tracking stakes - five oldies in Veteran, four in TD, one in WD and six in UD – a superb turnout! Unfortunately Les (veteran) and Chris Theobald (WD) had to scratch at the last moment - but not before Les had already laid three TD tracks - as Les's young dog was taken seriously ill and had to be taken to Newmarket to specialist vets. Colin Diggins and Caron McLure laid all the UD tracks, Les laid three and Derek Chaplin the last TD, and Sandra Lewindon and Nick Brunner laid the Veterans. John judged the TD and Veteran while Kate judged the UD. John McLure stewarded for John and Elaine Mills stewarded for Kate.
Thank you to everyone who was willing to change times or jobs to help after Les and Chris were forced to pull out.
After the nosework and a dog walk thirteen of us met at The Queen's Head in Tolleshunt D’Arcy for a very tasty meal. This gave everyone a chance to chat and get warmed up!
Sunday was overcast and very cold but, thankfully, dry ,. Most people mucked in to help on the Sunday but a special thanks to Graham and Jackie Blake and Sandra Greenwood for organising the raffle, Katherine Herbert in the kitchen, to Frances Ball for stewarding for Kate in the progress tests and Caron McLure for scribing for John for the C&A .
A really big thank you to all the helpers and also to those who
donated the wonderful raffle prizes and cake.It all made for a super weekend.
I hope you all enjoyed the two days
